Hey there, here’s a super simple craft project that is easy to prep and easy to clean up!

Depending on their age and fine motor ability, you can prep the red paper cutting ahead of time or have the little beans do the cutting themselves working their fine motor skills.

What you’ll need:

  • 5 strips of thick red paper (3″ x 1″)
  • 1 thick red paper triangle for tail (1.5″ x 1″)
  • Snake head printable (link below)
  • Glue stick
  • Scissors
  • Paint pens or markers (optional)

Instructions:

Press the glue stick onto one end of one red paper strip. Fold the other end over and press down on the sticky end to form a ring.

Insert a strip into the ring and repeat until a “chain” is made using 5 strips.

Glue the head and tail onto the ends of the chain. Decorate with markers to customize.

Teacher’s notes

IB PYP unit of inquiry: Sharing the planet. Key concept: form.

Decorate the red paper strips with patterns turning the activity into an inquiry into the patterns we often see on animals. e.g. spots, stripes, diamonds etc.
