Peachtober Reflections: Keeping the Prompts Alive Year-Round
As an art teacher (and artist!), I love following art prompts that pop up on social media. They’re such a fun way to stretch creatively and step outside my own oeuvre. Special events like Peachtober are especially inspiring — each daily prompt feels like a tiny challenge, nudging me to try new ideas, materials, or subject matter I might not have explored otherwise.

Now that we’re in November, Peachtober is officially wrapped up for another year. I’ll admit: October was a whirlwind! Between teaching, life, and everything else, I couldn’t quite manage a piece every single day — and honestly, that’s okay. The pace is ambitious even during calm months.

Still, I’m proud of the few pieces I did finish. This one, for the prompt “pinecone,” is my favorite. There was something calming and meditative about studying the intricate geometry of a pinecone and translating that into my own visual language.

I also experimented more with my current favorite medium – acrylic inks! I think I’ll pick up a few more colors to expand the possibilities of what I can do with them. On my summer trip to Japan, I picked up a rainbow-tip colored pencil. I wasn’t sure what to do it exactly but just started sketching the initial idea with it – and I love how it came out. I think I’ll do all my sketches in rainbow from now on.

And here’s my takeaway: you don’t have to limit these prompts to October. I plan to keep dipping into them throughout the year — using them as jumping-off points whenever I need a creative spark. Inspiration doesn’t have an expiration date!
