Affordable Art Fair Singapore 2025: A Creative Recharge for Art Teachers

I had the chance to visit the Affordable Art Fair Singapore 2025, and as always, it reminded me why stepping outside the classroom and into the world of contemporary art is so important for us as art educators. The fair was a vibrant, inspiring mix of colours, textures, and ideas—like walking through a living textbook of artistic possibilities.

As I wandered through the booths, I kept noticing techniques and styles that we have been exploring or that I would like to introduce in class, but seeing them used by practicing artists brought everything to life. There were stunning examples of yarn art, playful compositions echoing the abstract rhythms of Sonia and Robert Delaunay, and so many wonderful pieces showcasing surrealism and textured surfaces created with palette knife techniques. Moments like these reinforce how valuable it is to expose students (and ourselves!) to real, evolving artistic practices.

Visiting events like this keeps me updated with what’s happening in the art world, but it’s also a form of personal growth. It pushes me to reflect, refresh, and continue developing as an artist-teacher. Every work I saw sparked a new classroom idea or reminded me of why I love teaching art in the first place.

And of course… I couldn’t resist supporting a fellow artist by bringing home a new piece of art! Nothing beats the joy of adding a meaningful work to my own collection.

Meeting the artist who painted the piece I bought made the whole experience far more meaningful. Hearing her talk about the inspiration behind the work, the small details I hadn’t even noticed, and the emotions in each brushstroke added a personal connection that you simply can’t get from a gallery wall alone. Our conversation turned the painting from just an imaginary character into a story I now get to carry with me. It feels less like a purchase and more like a shared moment—one that deepens my appreciation every time I look at it.

I’m walking away inspired and recharged—ready to channel all this creative energy back into my lessons.
